Testing underway on WIOCC’s EASSy cable system

I’ve been asked to clarify the next steps towards the launch of WIOCC’s EASSy cable system.

The good news is that we have now moved into the Testing stage, which consists of the following phases:

Phase 1 – Stand-alone testing: tests all the equipment in each of the landing stations.

Phase 2 – Segment commissioning: Alcatel-Lucent’s engineers test every segment of the cable individually. A complementary set of test are then conducted by WIOCC-EASSy’s engineers.

Phase 3 – Network commissioning: tests the entire system end-to-end.

Once commissioning is complete, we will then be ready to start testing the provisioning of real services end-to-end across the system.

In terms of progress, Phase 1 is already complete and we are now moving into Phase 2, leaving us on track to connect the first customers’ traffic in July.
