EASSy upgraded to 3.84Tbps

The East African Submarine System (EASSy) undersea cable has been upgraded 3.84 Tbps design capacity, and has now entered commercial operation.

When planning for the EASSy cable started about seven years ago, the initial design capacity was 320Gbps, but as demand for international broadband increased, the system was redesigned with 1.4 Tbps capacity.

Recent innovations in the system’s Alcatel-Lucent -supplied equipment has led to a further increase in the design capacity to 3.84 Tbps.
